I'm running the built in sump on the back of my 60 gallon DAS system and would like to add a sponge filter for additional filtration. I can only find the one I want rated for aquariums up to 40 gallons and then it jumps up to 75 gallons. I'm wondering which one you guys would recomend I use in my tank? Also If it helps I'm housing a few small discus in this setup currently and I've read they aren't huge fans of a strong current but prefer clean water should I over filter or under filter this tank either way it has the sump running most of the load and I will be doing partial water changes daily.

Hydro sponge filters. I like the Hydro-sponge V. Over filter always! But for discus... make sure you stay on top of those water changes!

I'd say the 75

I was going to order the one from bacto rated for 75 isn't the hydro-sponge v rated for 125 gallons? Also what size air pump would I need for either of these ?

I got two in my 200 gallon thats rated for like 60 or 75 gallon I honestly forgot. I have two in there though. I have a sump as well. I just wanted more filtration as well and I do use those sponge filters to start new tanks.

I rock four of the V with a four way air pump and powerhead per tank. You can't over do it with sponges but you can certainly under do it.

Cool I think I'll just go ahead and get the one 75 gallon filter for now and a air pump rated up to 100 gallons to run the thing if I don't hear anything else by tonight.
Also how fast do these build up a nice amount of bacteria in them?

JK47 JK47 wow that's some flow out of that ....more pics

Or actually I'll pick up 2 since the air pump I'm getting has 2 hoses.

IMO if your going to run air to keep the tank well oxygenated you mightmight as well be adding extra filtration at the same time. I love bubbles in flow. Not everyone's thing but I love it
