Ok I got a gall (red reuben peacock) packing a mouth full of eggs and was looking for a fry friendly solution to filtering 10 and 20 gallon tanks that could be tied together in the future IE running several fry tanks on one filtration system. I came across sponge filters and they looked to fit the bill (could power 12 filters on one blower, my dad owns a pneumatic company so its a match made in heaven). I was just wondering if their was a brand and or design you guys think is superior in its cleaning qualities. I was shoping around foster and smith and they are all reasonably cheap and similar in implimentation but with apparent differences:

vs.

Your experienced thoughts please?

i have use both and they are both good..

I've used both, as well, and my personal preference is for the Hydro brand sponges. The bottoms are weighted, so they don't float around or need to rely on suction cups. The others work perfectly fine, though.

I have the Hydor IV running right now in a tank, works great!

My suggestion would be based on substrate...
-No substrate = Hydor
-with substrate = Oxygen +

My fish like to get under mine, so they will sometimes knock it over-because I can't really level it on the sand substrate I use. The suction cup style this would not be an issue.

Ok, one more question, is their such a thing as over filtration via sponge filter? Could I get the Hydro V the largest and drop it in a 20 gallon, suction is determined by air flow right so that would be easily regulated right? I'd like to go larger so I could potentially use this supplimentally in a 55 or 100 gallon breeding tank with a powerhead or stronger air supply. I'm probably gonna get 6 since I have 6 fry tanks waiting to get filled. Also wondering if you guys have thoughts on an efficient and cheap heating solution for warming 6 individual 20 gallon tanks(nothing larger). Thanks

Oh and on the Hydros where does the air hose plug in???

I'll probably get 6 Hydro's and one oxygen(out of curiosity).
