Is it worth it? What will the savings be? The four filters use a total of less than 100 watts of electricity. It costs less than fifty cents a day to run them. So you may save a bit less that $15 per month.
I'm in the process of switching over my tanks to air powered sponge filters as well. It makes me a bit nervous as I'm used to the AC hob filters and swear by them, but everything I read says there won't be a issue so long as I keep up with water changes and filter cleaning.
While watching some vids on youtube on breeding killifish, I came across this guy's channel and videos. He runs everything off of sponges, no hob filters, and everything looks awesome. He's got lots of tanks of all sizes and varying loads of stock in tanks. His vids are worth a watch if you're interested in going that way.
