Sponge vs box filters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, some people don't run their fish rooms with some 100+ gallon tanks using only sponge filters for no reason. A pair of Midas honestly shouldn't be that much of a bioload in a 180 really anyways.

I would worry about mech filtration in all honesty, itd be real tough to keep any waste in check but I'm sure people manage.

He could always hook up a cheap powerhead power head or two to a couple of the sponges for a bit of extra turn over/water movement.

ya didn't see that post. Midas will definitely be a significant bioload on a 180.

Maybe I should have been a bit clearer lol. Not used to being up this early. I'm a bit of a more 'liberal' with stocking aquariums and a 180 to me is more than enough for just two Midas.

Won't derail the thread tho so I'll leave it at that.

i agree, but good filtration would have to BEGIN w/ just the Midases before anything else would flourish and have a healthy tank. Then again, a pair of Midases would likely kill almost anything you put with them.....

I am. I just said that I wasn't going to really go into detail about how I personally stock the way I do and why. I already gave my opinion on the OP's question and what I thought they should do.
