It is an antiseptic. Pimafix is an anti fungal, you can use both. Don't go with home remedies, it may kill your fish. There is more to Melafix than just tea tree oil.

Pure Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca) is the primary ingredient
by mixing 5mL of melaleuca to 16 oz of distilled water you will get the same concentration that melafix is

I have had those same spots on dozens of large species fish. They always seem to go away on their own.
I had the same spots on my MBU when it was about 4" adn in his 60 gallon temp grow out. I did a Melafix and Pimafix dose and nothing happened it was not until I moved him to my 240 that they went away. My fish was horribly stunted from the beginning so it may be a bad example but I found that a larger tank and better water quality allowed teh fish to fight off the infection on it's own.
99% of problems can be fixed with good water quality/filtration/husbandry. IDing why you had ammonia and preventing the water quality from slipping again will help you and your fish more then anything in a bottle ever will.
in the mean-time a 1/2 dos of melafix wouldn't hurt but I hesistate always when useing pima/mel as just as any other thing to put in your tank. ODing can and will kill your fish. Tea tree oil improperly dosed can and will kill a tank off faster then any copper med OD I've ever seen. Just becasue it's "Natural" does not make it anymore safe then other meds.
It looks like a mild infection at worst, like when you get a small cut that doesn't heal right away. No signs of discoloration? then I wouldn't worry.. but I would get the water fixed ASAP. the sooner this is done the sooner it will heal. It will likely not heal or just keep comign back if the water quality isn't improved.
You don't rub dirt in a wound and expect it to heal.. you keep it as clean as possible... atm your fish is haveing dirt rubbed into what was likely a mild scuff to start.
25% WCs daily imo are your best "medicine" until the ammonia vanishes and your nitrites read 0 and your nitrates stay below 20ish.
