Spotted African Lungfish Care

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got it from John (Snookn21). I'm pretty impressed with how he packed the fish and the quality of the fish; I will definitely be checking his stock the next time I go to order fish! The lungfish is already eating a little over two hours after being placed in it's tank!

Good pictures coming soon; crappy picture of it in the bag can be found here.

Here's those pictures I said that I would take:

Sorry that the pictures aren't the best quality, but these are the best that I have for now plus they're better than the other ones I had.

My lungfish is a spotted African lungfish (Protopterus dolloi), right?

Nice lung. How long is it? It looks like a spotted to me, but I'm no expert. Kind of looks like my old lung which I thought was a WAL.

Wait a few years. it will grow!!!!!! mine is 39.12inch 5.9 kilo and the thickness of a 2 liter plastic cola bottle. (speaking for Dutch bottle)
I have 2 924 gallon tanks and to small for my WAL. I prefer some green and wood in the tank. My WAL even replace a piece of wood that takes 3 guys to put in the tank.......
He's now in my indoor Pond in the shed being happy hahaha.
(my tank in the living room is controlled and filterted through a system in my shed. that's the reason the WAL is placed there to.)

My lungfish is doing pretty good.

He's grown quite a bit; he's at least 12" now. He enjoys algae wafers, beef heart, and shrimp pellets, and seems to always be hungry no matter how much food I give him. I actually can hand feed him the algae wafers and beef heart now, so he's definitely lost much of his fear of me.

Its nice to hear that your Lungfish is doing well.Yup,it seems that lungfishes are always hungry and are constantly looking for something to eat although they also create a lot of wastes in the process. But it is really rewarding and enjoyable having a pet lungfish in our fish collection. It is very responsive to its owner.:)
