Anyone able to id this fish from these horrid pictures?

It's the best I could get. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

Looks to me like a very hungry LMB. Congrats! Now it's time to go buy some minnows and watch the action.:) Where did you get the little guy at? What size tank is he currently in?
Here's a pic of mine:

yeah i thought he was a spotted because the jaw doesnt look like it extends past his eye. Then I thought he was a large mouth because the dorsal looks to be seperated...

I caught him with a cast net in the colorado river here in austin, tx. that cast came with a few hybrid green sunfish (i think) that are his tank mates. They're currently in a 35 gallon tank but I've got a 300gallon stock tank outside that's just about ready to go. And yeah, he does look hungry. I raise red wiggler worms for composting and that's what I throw into the aquarium for them... the bass doesn't seem to be taking to them, but the hybrid green sunfish grab em, spit em out, grab em, swim around the tank like crazy with the others trying to steal the worm.. then spits them out hehe.

Is a black bass the same thing as a spotted bass? Can bass hybrid? Because he looks like a cross between a large mouth and spotted to me, maybe he's still just to small to take on his adult characteristics?

I was feeding him bloodworms and he goes crazy over those, but I'd really love it if he starts eating red wigglers because... well... I've got thousands for free :)

LMBs don't get the noticeably large mouths until they're a little older. Black bass is a general term... down here it usually means largemouth, but can mean any of the Micropterus species. Chances are, he's pure LMB. The hybrids you see down here are Guadalupe bass crossed with smallmouths thanks to stocking years back. Here's the TPWD link for bass ID http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/bkbass_diagrams.phtml . There are some tricks to telling spotteds from Guadalupes (other than DNA), but the best way to (sort of) know is just check their ranges.

Get the bass some minnows man. They will also eat crickets, ghost shrimp, freeze dried krill, but live fish are there favorite. Keep an eye on the green sunfish and the bass sometimes they get along fine and other times one will tend to bully the other.

went to the fish-o-rama (what I call the fish store, Aquatek, in austin). The minnows they had there looked to be to big for this guy to eat. I got him some more blood worms for now because he really likes those. Thanks for all the replies :) fun.
