I got my gar about 2 weeks ago and I seen how he swims and stuff. Yesterday evening after feeding (fed him around noon) I noticed that my gar just stayed in the bottom of the tank and didnt move. I didnt think nothing untill this morning. He is still in the same position since yesterday. Is this normal? Hes breathing fine but just on the bottom and I havent seen him swim. So im getting a little nervous!!!! If he ate a bad feeder what can I do to help him???????

often times gar do just lay around. start out w/ the obvious...check all of your tank parameters...ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, temp, etc...after knowing all of this we can take a guess at what may be going on. as i said before though...sometimes gar do this.

Alright just got home from church and I checked my parameters. Everything is normal! All my other fish are swiming like normal except the gar. Thats why I think it might have been a bad feeer that he ate. I noticed that last nught he was breathing kind of fast compared to right now, but hes still in the same spot. I checked out his body and seen no attack marks or anything out of the ordinary. He looks good to me, just not swiming. So anyone know what might be wrong with my gar? If they do lounge around like this sometimes, how long does it usually last for?

what is your water temp?

Water is 80* F. It fluctuates plus or minus 2 degrees but I dont think that would do much. Will it?

Oh, thanks for the relief! Im new to the gar worlds :)

The fish is fine and just acting like a gar...If your worried about it poke it with a stick it will move then sit at the bottom somewhere else...Soon as he/she digests it's nice big meal it will start moving around again.
