I noticed that he just hung out right under my powerhead (bottom of powerhead was about 2" from bottom of tank) , so I moved it. Since I put it about 6" from the top, now the Gar swims back and forth. Sometimes just hanging around the bottom. But I feel better cause this is how he was when I saw him at the fish store. Thanks for all your input demjor19. :)

no problem. i dont really think gar like current...so the powerhead may not be the best idea. just my 2 cents.

I think your right. On the other hand, I think if you position the powerhead just right... It can benefit both. The gar since he might not like that much flow and the tigers so they can swim into the current.
I put the powerhead so it flows the current in the tank (leinght of the tank) at just over the middle. Where the tiger fish swim. And the Gar swims low-middle and top. So the current is not bothering him. This is just my thought, since it has only been one day. Only time will tell :)

i'm sure if the tank is large enough it wont hurt anything...like you said...the gar can just avoid it. what kind of tiger fish do you have? is it the Dat or the ATF?

I have 2 (6-7") Vittatus African Tiger Fish and an Indo Dat (4"). Also with 2 Mono Sabaes (about 6" Tall).

what size tank do you have all these guys in? i thought mono sabaes were brackish? very odd assortment of fish...do they seem to be getting along ok? i have never kept any of the fish mentioned except the gar (obviously). i would be sure to keep a close eye on all of them.

the gar will eventually be unable to resist shredding the monos and/or the ATF...they can't keep away from silvery fishes no matter what their size. i would highly suggest separating these fishes from the gar before serious damages occur--

All my fish are doing great! They swim like hell. The Monoes chase each other and the tigers chase each other. The Dat keeps to himself and so does the Gar. The only prob I have in my tank is the tigers keep crashing into the tank (well one does way more than the other). I have only had one small fight if you will. One of my Monoes has some of his top fin nibbled on.
I don't know if I also mentioned my daughters 7" Feeder Goldfish that survived.

I do plan on separating some of my fish. I have to buy a 50gl tank for my Daughter and will add the Goldfish, and the Monoes :)

I think that my fish might be to young to kill everyone. I'm trying to keep my killer fish with other fish so it can hopefully calm them down. Kind of like if they are raised with fish maybe they will not harm everything (like I said hopefuly, and hopefully I got mellow fish with a kick back personality).

from my experience...a predatory fish will always be a predatory fish. if you keep them all well fed and in a large enough tank you may have better luck, but it is almost inevitable that sooner or later one of the fish will snap. i used to have a 6-7 inch spotted pike characin in w/ my (at the time) 16" florida/spotted gar. i always kept the florida/spotted gar well fed and had no issues. one morning i woke up to a very beat up characin (who had to be put down). just be very cautious when mixing fish...i'd hate to see you lose any of them.

Oh no doubt. I keep a close eye on the at all times. As a matter a fact im going to be getting another tank setup just incase :)
I didnt think that a Gar could do that much damage. Only cause I hear that odoes are crazy. I had an Odoe for about 2 days and he was gone. To much for me, he was nutts. If anyone is looking for a nutts Odoe, I took him bak to All Happy Aquarium. He was about 8" of killer instinct:)
Quick Q? What do you think about a Endl Bichir and Spotted Gar together? yes/NO?? (just a thought)

Well it should work... It depends on the size of the bichir and the gar.. If they r of similar size it should work.. Well it worked for me..just be careful..
