ok i dont know if you can but is there a way to see if your gar is a male or a female? becus im thinking of geting another one and i dont whant a male and female.

I don't believe there is any way to tell what sex they are from looking at them. Anyways, the chances of having a pair of gars mate in an aquarium is probably pretty low. They're not like cichlids, which will seemingly breed with anything that moves :).

Don't worry about the sex of the new gar. You won't have any issues either way (mating or same-sex aggression).

i am the opposite of the op...same question but i want to try to breed them

Good luck, not highly likely to happen, but you never know. Keep a few together and in a few years, you may get lucky.
