yea and i have a florida so its a spotted, that thing looks spotted or florida but looks total diff from my florida lol

Where is that one smilie thing.... Ahh here it is... :wall:

I think you have been around enough to know they are quite variable. Just because it does not look like your Florida does not make it a Spotted.

Size of the fish and potential sources of where it came from would help. Have a pretty good idea on what fish this is but would rather hold off for more info on the fish.

iv seen many florida too and a few spotted

Looks something like mine which the LFS said was a Florida gar. It sounds like there are a lot of hybrids out there that makes the difference between spotted and Florida gars difficult to determine.

unless it was wild caught in texas, it's most likely a Florida...especially coming through an LFS. it looks somewhat unusual for a typical Florida, but i would still go with that ID. --

Suspected as such.
It very much appears to be a wild caught Platyrhincus. They are always a bit differently patterned than those that are farmed. Nice fish and with luck it will hold that pattern to some degree.

I have noticed that the spots are less distinct when he is floating at the surface. When in hunt mode on the bottom they become very clear and crisp. He was up against the glass this morning so I could measure him and he is right at 12" including tail. The fish is not skittish at all and seems to watch the outside happenings. The tank is in my bedroom and stays dimly lit.

Well if he is wild caught he jumped on the frozen wagon right away!!! Grabbed several of the frozen silversides I fed the tank last night. Now if I can get him to do more than just sniff the Massivore....
