I picked up this awesome catfish at a local pet store earlier today. It was sold as a spotted shovelnose catfish and is about 8" in length. From what I know of shovelnose catfish and the like, it's going to get fairly large, but I think I'm up to the challenge.

My question is what species of catfish is this fish? If it helps for a positive ID, the catfish lacks tail streamers.

It looks like a normal tsn to me just minus the defining white strip

I'd say tsn also.
Nice oddball. I like!
If you ever want to sell, let me know.

Thanks for the help all!

After looking over some pictures on Fishbase.org, I think I may have a positive ID on my shovelnose catfish; I think that it may be a Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum (barred sorubim; barred shovelnose) rather than a P. tigrinum (tiger sorubim; tiger shovelnose; TSN). Here's the link to the page on that species.

What do you all think?

20-30 tops. Just because it's pretty common and gets huge. On the other hand it does have a pretty cool pattern
