Anyone keep one?

Anyone had one in the past?

What was the growth rate like? Any problems I should be aware of?

What would the latin be on this one?

i just got a tiger muskie from tfd. he went from 2.5 inches to 5 inches in 3 weeks. ill raise him until he gets big then im getting rid of my 180 125 75 55 and going to pick up a 700 gallon or larger and put all my fish in there.

The problem would be keeping it fed, and its fast growth. Expect 20 inches in the first year.

The tiger musky is a hybrid between the northern pike and muskellunge. They get big very quickly as skipjack said.

A much more aquarium suitable alternative exists: the grass and redfin pickerel. These grow to 12" max, although I have kept them in relatively large tanks and none ever reached 12". Pickerel look pretty much like a miniature muskellunge or northern pike.

I've had pickerel - and they are thinner - more slender.

But hey... a muskie is what I have... lol

It seems I have a spotted Muskie, which is the species, not the hybrid.

All tiger muskies are hybrids. If it is a muskellunge, rather than a tiger muskie, then it is Esox masquinongy. If you bought it, I am fairly certain it is the hybrid.

Edit: I do see that Minnesota Muskie farm sells spotted muskie, which is a pure strain. It will grow slower than a Tiger, but ultimately larger.

Do you have a Pic of the fish??? it is rather impossible to tell you much about the animal without one really knowing what it is..Spotted Musky is a common name often applied to the Great Lakes complex of the nominal Esox masquinongy in which case you have a very big difficult fish on your hands. (Depending on strain as there are many different Great lakes strains)

If it is a hybrid thats a bit different. Then you just have a big psycho fish...

Hey guys - you'll see in my "new pickups" thread (Lounge, I think) There's a pic there. Jude quality, of course!

It was labeled "Spotted Tiger Muskie" - It's the "spotted" part that has me thinking that it is the pure strain, spotted variety of the Muskellunge.

They think it's from Central Mass Aquatics - if anyone finds any info on their stock that might help also.

Either way, I know I'm in for it! lol

Just please remember you asked! LOL
