all the piranhas ive owned have never even thought about biting me, generally they're more scared of you then you think. when i used to net my caribe 6"+ i would corner them with my hand and i could feed they're teeth brushing against my fingers.
Standing on a chair bent over the tank with your arm in the water...sooner or later I would think it's gonna happen. A divider cuts down the stress level for fish and owner. Mine are small so I chance it...I wouldn't go one on one with a 12" rhom.
