Well, cichlids definitely know their own young. Some of the festae babies wandered across the other side of the divider. Momma midas initially looked like she didn't know the difference, but upon closer inspection she was chewing them up and spitting out the rocks. It was like she was eating cherries and spitting out the pits. I didn't intervene because I wanted to see whether she would adopt them not knowing they weren't hers or eat them as I expected.
Daddy festae is not pleased with this evidenced by his strongly barred pattern and bright green sheen over the red. Momma festae is very bright red now.
Both groups of fry are free-swimming clouds. Much more midas babies than festae, but the festae are bigger.
I'm going to leave the parents in with the babies until after the SELAS meeting at my house on the 28th. The festae parents will be going to a 90 and the midas parents to a 75 until the fry are big enough to move.
