About the watering schedule, I would shot for early morning Starting about 4-5 AM. That way the soil has time to absorb the water before evap. and the leaves of the plants dry off before getting pounded by the rays. Watering at night can promote diseases mostly fungus, since the leaves connot dry off.

Not sure about that threory since it is in the dessert and the air does not contain much moisture like the humid mid-sweat.

Yeah, but if I'm a snowbird, then I can't keep fish.
