Squirrel wars in UK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, I hate to say this but I know where you are coming from on this, but the gray is an invasive spieces. Why contain the native to small native reservations, just remove the invasive spieces. I can understand why they want to remove the gray squrrel.
Funny thing is that this topic reminds me of american/canadian history, an invasive spieces comes in and out competes for the natives, at which point you ether remove the invasive spieces or try to save the native with reserves.

squirrel is good. and fun to hunt. they're a hard target with a .22 bouncin around in a tree...

i think we have greys, but also have some HUGE reddish ones. they're like 3lbs.. maybe more.

Got them on campus. My brother-in-law had never seen one until he came to Maryland. He about died laughing, b/c he thought someone had caught and spraypainted a squirrel.

Those are likely our "Yuper" squirrels (or you might have the rarer Black phase Fox naturally).. The history on how the melanistic eastern grey squirrels got around the country is rather interesting... It has much to do with pranks, Football and my alma mater Michigan State University...They are around collage campuses all over the place. They are in fact a perfect example of how exotic genetic strains when introduced can dilute and destroy native and local genetic animals. When in collage I actually was doing my masters on this very subject.

This naturally goes straight to the situation in the UK.. Eastern grays are seriously endangering the native reds. These animals are total pests and need to be controlled or eradicated where possible. As much as I love em' they are invasive and need to be eliminated. (This coming from the guy who is not kidding at all in saying that there is a Grey squirrel in his pocket right now while writing this)
