A friend of mine is still in college and the only pet she can have at school are fish. Now the biggest tank they are allowed to have is a 5 gallon tank.
I have an extra tank with a filter to give her when she starts her fall term.
I think the tank is either a 5 or 5 and a half gallon. All the fish she likes get too big for a 5 gallon. She doesn't know a whole lot about fish. She was showing me pictures online of what fish she likes and she likes fish that are colorful. She also likes a lot of cichlids which I had to tell her they get to big for a 5 gallon lol. Can you guys give me suggestions on some fish for the 5 gallon? I know bettas would do fine in a 5 gallon but I wanted to see what the other options were.

You were allowed to have a 30 gallon in your dorm? You were so lucky.
How many dwarf puffers could you keep in a 5 gallon? Would it be possible to keep 2?

baby angels, one or two.. get them at dime size and by the time she gets out of school in the fall they will be big enough for a larger tank and she can take them home with her for the summer. And start out with something else the following year.

tetras, or guppies, platys, or dwarf gouamis (they're pretty colorful). zebra danios, or white cloud minnows (don't need a heater for them).

Dwarf rams are cichlids that stays pretty small; wild caught ones anyways.

Good luck.

i was at a hairdressor the other day and they had a small tank of neon tetras with black uv light looks awesome as.
all you can see is glowing blue stripes dashing about. this could be an idea and looks unique :)

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I'll be sure to let her know the suggestions you guy have made. She can't get small angelfish this is the only tank she's going to have. Do you think she could keep a pair of Blue Rams in a 5 gallon?
