I know many have discussed this topic and I just wanted to share a recent experience of my own.
I recently had 4 ITs (8-10"), 1 AT (10.5"), and 1 NGT (6"). These datnoids were in a 210 gal with a 3D background and tons of
drift wood, and light colored gravel. Stability on all dats was 25-50% with excepiton of one IT and the NGT.
Just a few weeks ago I moved all 6 to a 180 gal with tons of driftwood, and pool filter sand with about the same lighting as the 210 gal.
Difference is the 180 has black sides and back meaning the only viewing panel is the front. WOW, all of a sudden all the dats are
90% stable! I guess having less viewing panels reduces stress, I have heard of this technique for skittish fish, but it seems to affect
stability in datnoids as well.
Anyway, sorry for the read, but hope this can help some.
