Stability

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
had a mishap in my tank over the weekend, my dats were definitely stressed and they were stable but their base color had black spotting. this was on all of my IT dats . after the problem was fixed my largest IT (15in) who's never been stable, always black throughout occasionally becoming really light colored all over (no strips showing) became stable with a solid gold base and solid stripes. he's been stable so far so we'll see how long it might last. my other dats were already stable for the most part and continue to be stable.

They are ambush predators, so perhaps there camouflage goes into full effect when they are hungry and hunting.

well that would confirm my other thing then loads of tigers are under fed

also if that was true as soon as they were full they would go stable as they dont need to hide anymore

Well thanks to my new job I am not home nearly as much as I used to be and my IT, now is a little more unstable, here are the two things that have changed. Photo-period went from around 12 plus hrs a day to 5 and I can not feed nearly as much as I use to. Available food has went down around 40% or so. Hungrier and in a dark environment much longer than before showing more unstable pattern.

may be it more unstable with less activitay around the tank again unstable may mean happy :nilly:

My 650g has a 3d background, massive piece of driftwood, fake plants and black diamond quartz gravel. On one side of the tank the 3d background wraps around the corner / side of tank. On the other end the tank opens up (is an uneven wedge shape tank) and is visible from front side and back, with lots of human and large doggy traffic passing by.

My small NTT is always in the open end and I would say 95% stable. It took a while for him to settle in the tank. He was always in driftwood for maybe a month. He was one of the first fish in the tank and there is a lot of dither fish, and a few big guys now.

I know all dats are different but mine must love the space and options to hide, 3d background and dark substrate. Though he never hides and comes to see me and follows me around all the time.

Just to add onto this my indo dat is always stable... hes been in my 50 gallon tank for 1 year as of 2 weeks ago and i disagree with ppl saying there highly variable. Heres a pic. my inhabitants are indo dat, featherfin syno, parrot fish, bala shark, ebjd, pictus cat. Keep in mind tho that fish have personalities so one person might find there rtc to be a pig and highly territorial and another might say theres lives with neon tetra's & cichlid fry & its a tightly knit family. But i would say chances are if your an rtc owner thats not gonna happen. Lol
