This is a decent thread...
And I have to agree with many points raised from many members. But ime, whatever makes one IT stable, the total opposite can also make another IT stable.
I have some go dark with lights off, others go stable vice versa
Some go black in the net and bag, yet others go stable.
Some go black when being chased, some
Go stable when being chased.
The ST definatley has that "stable " gene, which remains constant.
The IT and NTT in comparison are much more "random" . They can be
stable like a yo yo..
A good point kolossus made:..... With my ITs, they can be stable for 6 months to a year , then go unstable for many months. Then back again.
I don't think it's all stress related. If it was then every IT put in a net would
go stable. That is not the case... As loads go black when netted or in bag. Also most tigers look very stable when feeding... Feeding time is probably not a stressful time for fish. Probably the opposite.
True alot of my smaller ITs are stable, but my most stable are the two 13 inch ITs. No one is stressing them Out and they rarely Fight..
What makes it's more Confusing is when I have an unstable IT for 2 years, then for Te next 3 years to date, Its been stable 24/7.
What I do notice though is the lOnger u keep the group of tigers together, over time, I reckon years... They will display more and as a result stay stable for longer.
When constantly changing decor and tank set up, not allowing enough time for the tigers to get used to surroundings, this just makes them more unstable... So if change set up , leave it for several months. If they still look unstable, then re-arrange etc, but wait for several months agin to see how theysettle and look.
Lots of time and patience helps...
