my IT gets stable with nice dark bars and yellow base when it gets hungry and comes out from it's hiding place in search for food. i noticed too that when there was a power failure and all the pumps stop running, it comes out immediately from its hiding place with that super nice colour too and once the power is back on its beauty fades away and it goes into hiding almost immediately...

Mine go stable with the lights out or when they are getting chased

So that's a few reason why they go stable so just goes to show no one knows for sure
