I have an idea...

Now dont laugh, but I have an idea for stacking one aquarium right on top of another.

Heres how it might be -
I am about to start to move my indoor pond upstairs for the summer.
Inside my pond I have an upside down aquarium that hangs by some squar rods.

Now as clearly weird as that looks already, (and I admit it's weird) I wanted to go even more weird and stack a 15 gal aquarium right on top of the other aquarium!

Have you ever heard of anyone doing anything like this before?
Any idea what it would look like?

I was thinking that the top stacked aquarium would not have any gravel so that the top light would be able to shine down into the lower aquarium and then on down into the pond below....

The main problem with the idea?

Here is where I think my new idea might suffer a flaw.
What Im thinking of doing is to place a 15 gal aquarium on top of an upside down 30 gal aquarium.

This means that I will try to support the weight of the 30gal aquarium on top of the upside down glass bottom of the other aquarium.

If I were setting up a normal 15 gal aquarium I would have it on a nice stand with perhaps plywood under it to spread the weight.

But with my plan Im going to have all the weight of the 15 gal aquarium pushing on the glass joints of the lower 30 gal tank.

I have never heard on anyone in their right mind attempting to do this before me.

any views as to if this idea could work?

I watched your vids pretty cool. Maybe if you placed a tempered(for strength) piece of glass over the 30 then the 15 on top it would hold. You would want to spread the weight all to the perimeter of the 30 so the front, back and sides can act as pillars to hold the 15.

I will more than likely do a little test of this idea.
Once I break down the pond to move it upstairs I can just place the upside down aquarium on the floor, stack the 15 gal tank on top and then fill the 15 gal with water, stand back and see if it falls in....

When I do it I will take some video clips....

(if this idea turns out to work, then I get credit for being the first to think of it!
On the other hand, if this idea fails then let us never speak of this again...)

do it like camrsz said will work, tempered glass is strong as hell

"I have an idea....."
(all my aquarium problems always start with that sentence)

I have an idea of a way to test the concept of stacking aquariums to see what it might look like.
Im going to be busy today working on a few ways to check if it's a look I want to go with.

Today will be "dry run" day for this idea.
I will be busy building something secret and then I will post a short video of how it looks to see what you guys think .

Remember the idea of truly "stacking' aquariums is I think unheard of.
I dont think anyone in the history of keeping fish in aquariums has ever tried before.
(well not that I know of anyway...LOL)

So we got to expect that it's going to look weird to us at first.
But I want a weird look, I want a look and a stacked-aquarium set up that no one has ever seen before.

Thus, I now go to make my test attempt.........

I should be able to post a video up on this topic showing the results of the dry-run testing within 2 or 3 hours from now...

great vid!! i was wondering how to get the water up in there.... cant wait to see the final product and the extra secret :)
