stacking rocks and sand depth?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my gravel is like 2 inch high i have crates under my gravel for supporting the lava rock but im gonna take it out cause it traps all the dirt and build up under it but for stack riocks high i do like lil less then half the tank just cause malawis i have or not rock dwellers ( hap and peacocks) they klike open water so i guess that depends on ur fish u have..

i got pics on my thread ill look for it right now and see if i can post some..

I don't have sand now, but my 110 is going to have it. I'm thinking of using small pieces of egg crate because most of my fish are Tangs and diggers. In using the egg crate I am hoping that the rocks will remain stacked even in the event the fish dig out all the sand. Here is a pic of my lace rock that will be transfered to the new tank.Nik's Misc. Pics. 060.jpg
I like this rock because I think it locks into place and doesn't shift much. My fish are pretty small so I don't worry about shift, but I am making cave for the other tank w/the same rock and using epoxy to creat some cool caves.

Again, another great pic....

Sorry folks.

Let's put it this way. I've been doing this for more than 20 years. Never heard of anyone's tank bottom cracking. Have you? I'm calling BS on anyone who says they have because they would've mentioned it by now....
