I left 0.5cm of my coral sand under the stack stone and they are adequately buffering the water to 7.8Ph

All good so far, no spikes in anything, loaches have held color properly so nothing funny in water as yet!

Great hopefully All will stay that way for you and you water stays stable , just keep testing it , once that coral eventually washes away just stick a bag of it in your external (that's what I do on my bare bottom tanks ) save you moving the tiles again

How long for the coral to break down? I've never used it much until now
 
It depends on your filter and flow rate really mate , I put about five table spoons in a filter bag inside my fx and either top it up every couple of months with one or two more or replace the lot every 4-5 months , it seems to keep !one in check but I've got a massive chunk of bogwood lowering the pH in my tank too
