Should i stain the inside of the stand? O.o i did the out side really nice Cherry color and i don't know if u should pait the inside once to steal the wood or is it not needed? or should i just clear it? inside a fx5 and maybe l8r down the road a sump... maybe when i get the sump? i should?

Staining will help waterproof it, but clear coat with a poly for sure. Humidity will cause problems, plus there are always water oops'. :D

aight. Should i get the area under the tank?

On my stand, I did not stain the inside, but sealed the entire thing with a gloss clearcoat.

I used polyshade.Stain tinted poly. But i would at least poly everything that exposed.

If it where me I would pretend I was dipping it in the stuff :D. (I had one stand outside in the weather for 4 yrs without harm, then gave it away and it's still in use with a 55g tank) The poly was dripping off of it. :screwy:

Water is like rust...it doesn't sleep. If the wood gets repeatedly wet, mold starts, then the mold (usually black) holds moisture and causes a breakdown of the cellulose in the wood (rot). It's not going to cost enough to outweigh the piece of mind. And it's easier to clean up the eventual mess (you know somethings got to happen) .

Minwax was what I used. Red Maghogany stain, and three clear coats over it.

Grr... i cant seem to get a hull day in working on the damn thing befor the night hits... lucly... its been hot nights beside the morning. So today i was able to put one coat over the stand. but i had to leave it outside. Cuz i have no work place. An the smell is to strong for inside work. Im going to have to nook a coast on ever night :( ive allrdy pilled of a few bugs. i wish i can do this inside... worse case i can take it in to someone and get the thing gone. O.o i hope leaving it outside in this hot weather will be simi ok. or should i bring it in.. wait tell sat and start early on it?

220B Cherry is what i used.

Heat should be ok, it's humidity you want low.

Can you rig a tent over it after you paint to keep junk and dew off of it (just a old sheet on a rope or 1x2's like tents you made in the house as kids)?

Or you can tell everyone the bugs where trapped in the finish (like amber) on purpose :screwy: .

Well I'm done. Hated every moment about it lol. I still have to do my doors and re screw them back on the stand. I forgot to sand down between coats.. Didnt really have time. hah i kinda rushed my self by putting a coat on every night. It still came out really nice. Only 3 bugs and 2 dog hairs. :-D
