Stalsbergi update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, they did it. The pair have eggs!
Only a small batch of about 50 I'd say. I don't hold out too much hope for this spawn. Mainly because it's their first but also because watching them this morning they would both leave the nest unguarded for long periods of time. Either way they still did it. If there is still eggs after work I will get a video. :D

Wow!! They are beautiful man... One of my favorites, you have to keep us updated on their progress :)

Well, it's over as quickly as it begun. The female just left the eggs and the cories have had a feast. Andy was being pretty rough and was trying to force her back into the nest. But she didn't want to.

Quite sad, but hopefully as they gain size they will get better at it.

I will post a video of them during prespawn. It is taking a while to upload though.

Thankyou for all the comments, I guess it went to their heads and they didn't fancy being tied down!

Wow, I wouldve killed those Corys.

Now were the eggs fertilized at all before they were snacked on?

You would have killed my cories! Well, they're not exactly the stars of the show, but come on!

Just kidding :D, I gather you mean you'd thought the Terrors would of made the cories their lunch? Well, I was concerned about this too. However, they seem to be big enough to not be seen as food, but small enough to not be a threat. There is the occassional nip and bite but the cories are usually so busy they don't even notice! As the Terrors grow I will keep my eye on them and If needs be, I will switch them out for some pictus cats.

The eggs were definately fertilised. They were hidden in an awkward spot so I couldn't see them too great, but I could make out a few. There were definately some unferted ones (white), but for the most part they were good (A browny/caramel colour).

I think the female decided it was too much. She would rather keep growing and try again, I guess. Andy is always trying it on and I believe he may have found his next victim (another female from the group).

Sweet setup Grant, it looks peaceful from the pictures! Sandy's (SAlly&aNDY) booming with colors and the SDs give a nice touch of red in the mix of colors :)

I noticed you only have one plant left?? Not really surprised though since you moved them around a lot! :P

Congratulations on the definite pair, looking forward to their progression!!!

Btw, have you ever considered hatchet fish?

It is becoming a lot more peaceful, the smaller 5 stals are always fighting among themselves, but Andy just stays clear. Apart from when he is feeling moody!

The colours were very intense during the spawn, they have since faded though. Still colourful, just not as so. I am hoping they will start to obtain adult colouration soon. Which is a metallic blue/green (as I'm sure you have seen).

I decided to remove all plants the other day, they are just fouling the water now. They aren't allowed to grow because the SDs eat them. So all gone. The SDs are always hungry! I have a glass lid to the tank and before feed time, I measure out the food onto this lid (so's not to overfeed) amd they jump out of the water or just bob alomg with their mouths going. It's really funny!

Well I wouldn't say pair just yet! There is three definate females of the group which are battling for dominance, so I think they all want to breed. Sally is still the largest of the lot, though.

I have considered hatchets. But they seem to be equally as hard to find as BHTs.

Thanks for checking in - now go update yours!!!

I'm sure you will have a successful spawn soon enough. These young fish don't understand that they have to defend their spawn but they will figure it out. Good job on attempting to breed these less common acaras.

I believe they will get it right soon enough. They are still very young and it was only a first attempt. For the time being though, I am just keeping up on water changes and good food to encourage some growth before they try again. I love GTs (both true and saums), so it's a pleasure for me to try breed them. Thanks :)
