thanks for your replies. yea, overbuilt seems to be the consensus. my nephew asked if i was makign a fallout structure. the reason im overbuilding is that its my first time building anything, and im hopinh to put alot of rocks and gravel and sand( as well as wood and plants) so while it may not hold 1000 pounds it will probably be at 500 600 pounds. i also thought that i would prepare it like it was a tank with water to be sage, and i also saw a tank with a bunch of eels awhile ago i might make an attempt at( tho fish seem to me to be a heck of a lot more work than reptiles).
i think ill go with a nice metal halide lights and plant some succulents as well. i love the big tanks but really the environemnt is half the show. maybe ill post one of my other tanks in a bit- for anoles.

That tank looks great! I have a 100g with a black background on the back and sides for 3 bearded dragons and they are always scratching at their reflections in the glass. I am going to have to attach a fake rock background on the tank to stop this (and should look better too).

Are those real plants? I will have to use fake ones in mine as I have a tile floor.

thanks. if you can somehow seal the tile you could always add a sand soil mix and then plant succulents into the substrate. then put rocks and gravel on top so you can eliminate the possibility of impaction. i dont know much about beardies but theres lots of leopard gecko owners who say never use sand. leopards try to get calcium from theri substrate IF they are provided with a dish of calcium. so you could give it a go. or safer would be to make pea gravel the subsrate and then just bury the pots of whatever plants you have. of course youd have to use big tough plants like snake plants or maybe a jade plant.
im planning on making my own fake rocks to give lots of hiding places for the leopard geckos. hoping to make a multi-generational colony. so ill try yo keep you posted on what im doing.
the plant is real- its ficus pumilla. on the wall you could probably make little areas to plant little succulents and trailers. then again with a desert type viv, it will look more realistic with less plans. hope you can do a little construction log for your rock background, i'm intersted to see it.

so theres the stand, ridiculously overbuilt. now do i just screw in the ply? does it matter if its with 3 inch screws? should i glue it too? also, my level doesnt span the length or width of the stand. any suggestions are welcome.

i would put atleast 3 screws to each side in the top ply. What size screws you use is based on how thick your plywood is. 3" is not neccessary. And for your level, you can get a straight 2x4 the length of your stand and set it on top.
