Stand for a 108 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok, first of all,,,the bottom board is correct,,,,i know its looks off, but thats a seperate board used as a shim to level,,,,,,and i was thinking of adding middle supports.

I've added an updated pic of the stand,,,note the bottom board is correct,,,,,you can see that its a shim from the updated pic,,,,i've also added two mid supports,,,,,you can view the pic in my gallery.

where is the pic

looks good

I agree that the stand would not be strong enough. If you think about it, you are puting about 1000lbs of water alone in the tank that can slosh aroung. I would strongly suggest that you put a center support in and either angled or level lateral supports. I also recommend on all stands made of wood that you use deck it so to speak; cover the ends and back with plywood. This will greatly strengthen the stand.

In my opinion, I would add more wood. Check out a design I did for a 55g...

The thing is that if there is a force appried laterally to your stand (i.e.: not perfectly leveled...and they are never perfectly leveled ;) ), then the stand won't hold the pressure. Check oout the back and lateral bars on my stand...
I agree!

I think the stand is a "monster",,,anyone who thinks its not strong enough is sadly mistaken,,,,I had a friend of mine who is a structural engineer examine it,,,,,he told me that you could drive a truck over it !!

Looks like it i'll work but if it was me i would still sheet it with plywood not only for extra piece of mind but also for cosmetics
