Just wanted some opinions on my stand, starting to have doubts about it and really considering getting a steel stand made for these two tanks. But here's what I got...

Needed a stand for two 75's the one on the bottom has about 1/2" inch on either side so its a nice snug fit. Has plenty of room to work in it from the top. My only concern at the moment is the tank on the top.

Since the tank on the top would not be sitting on the edges, I thought it would be a good idea to add some plywood on the top of the tank for a little more stability. So I added (2) 3/4" pieces of wood to help distribute the weight of the tank so the middle would not sag, so let me know what you think..The tank is not filled all the way yet, still finishing the filtration and all.

Dimensions of the tank are, 56"x19.25"x38.5".

looks good. I would have used treated wood though.

Not a good idea in the house. There's some nasty fume problems with treated wood.

Oakes...put some trim work around your plywood edges, paint or stain and your stand would look awesome!

I think you did a great job! It looks really sturdy. One hint for future projects...it's better to have your top railing sitting "on" the legs versus around the legs. That way, you can take full advantage of the compressive strength of wood instead of relying only on the shear strenght of your nails/screws. (Edit: I just looked again. Sorry, you built it perfectly. Damn poor eyesight! lol)

In this case though, it looks like you'll be fine.

Nice job!

oak is always a nice wood to use...imo?..but um yea that looks nice whats the stock gonna be?

I'm just moving my pair of JD's to this tank. I might try and add some dither fish as well, just not sure what kind yet.

looks nice, i have one 75 g on old wooden floors and was advised to put it perpendicular to the floor support boards to prevent the floor from sagging. Might be a good idea for you if you aren't using floor jacks in the basement.

Thanks all for the reassurring words on the stand being sturdy enough! Just need to get all the substrate in there and finish with my rock working.

The tanks are on concrete so no worries there.

i notice some builders use metal brackets where 2x4 bracing comes together and others dont. about 50 / 50 from the threads i've read. is there a size limit where the brackets should be used? - dave

Hopefully these give you a better idea of how the stand was built, if you got any more questions just let me know and I'll try my best to help. The 2x4's were glued and screwed together then notched away to accommodate the bracings.
