Stand look sturdy enough?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree it looks very nice. Should be plenty strong for that size.

I would have done one thing different and that is the two bottom rails would touch the legs. Or I would add two at the legs, so it would be the same as the top.

The double lap joint at the top corners gives enormous moment capacity to the stand. That means you can't twist the joints apart easily and so they keep everything square and rigid.

It's not the same league as a full plywood diaphragm, but this will be fine in a low-impact environment. It would certainly be better if the bottom was done the same way.

If you live in a high probability earthquake zone or have large dogs and small children who will bang into things, you might be slightly more circumspect; but even then I think you will be in pretty good shape, particularly if you glued all the joints.

I put a 20 and a 10 on this modified particle board microwave cart. It wasn't a long-term solution but it wasn't wobbly.

There it is on the right, after I set it all up.

I see what your saying about the bottom. Reason I did it that way was so I could fit a 10 gal on bottom.
