stop taking what you see on t v and hear about like its just the way it is. what i mean is the crap you see on t v and such about people almost dieing from a large snake getting a hold of them is CRAP (go ahead mods censor the bad words, i had to put it). i was pulled into a enclosure by an 11' foot red tail, it happened during feeding. i was by my self and im still here and so is the snake. i was bloodied up but the snake was not harmed and taken off of me by me. after that i let her cool down for about 15 minutes and resumed the feeding. what im trying to say is if it hasn't happened to you you don't know what to do. and there is info everywhere on how to get out of that kind of situation, but it is on a case by case thing. most of the info is ridiculous and will never work.

i never realized this was such a controversal topic.
but i have to agree with dde1878

at least someone gets it, or at least agrees.:clap

What makes you think that I am influenced by television on this subject?

You're situation went one way, but it was not the only potential outcome.

What I am trying to say is, that I want to be more prepared than you should I be on the wrong side of a snake. I'll pass judgment at the time of incident to use lethal force, but I'm reserving the option to. Goes for monitors, or whatever, anything that could inflict serious damage. You said it yourself; "it is on a case by case thing". Better safe than sorry I say. What harm is there to keep someone else in the room with me, and a knife or otherwise.

ok this subject does get me riled up a bit because of all the bad info out there and the reputation that this animals get from it. i did not mean any disrespect to will hayward. that is your right to do what you feel necessary, i hope you don't plan on getting any animals that have that capability though. the animal is just doing what it's instincts tell it to. this is something that SERIOUSLY needs to be thought about before anyone person gets these animals. me and my wife have opened our home, hearts and wallet to take in these animals because of people that don't think this through before getting the animal. perfect example i have a black and white tegu that was said to be so aggressive it was unmanageable. that was four days ago, today i had him out just letting him walk around on my lap. on the second day he was eating out of my hand. being prepared is cool but if you need to do that you should not even have the animal in the first place, this is something that can happen and you need to realize that when your thinking of getting the animal. to many people get this animals not realizing the time and care needed to properly maintain a healthy animal physically and mentally, a animals mental well being is just as important as it physical.

I'm just doing what MY instincts tell me to. And they tell me that when an animal which possesses great strength and a serious bite, to be ready for anything. I can't make it any simpler than that... but you say that because I want to keep a knife and a friend nearby when interacting with a large and strong reptile, I should not be keeping it... What?!

I think you are ridiculous. You contradict yourself and you're getting off the point.

I posted already that i agree with the buddy system
It can't be put any more simple than this, if you need a knife you have no business getting one of these animals.
And if YOUR instincts tell you to go out and buy a big snake then swing by Big 5 and pick up a knife. something is seriously wrong with your mental well being.
