Starboard?

stuckon stuckon hit the nail on the head and beat me to the punch lol... hdpe/hdpp need to be heat welded together. a "real" heat welder for plastics runs $800 and up...more like $1200-1500 for a good one. sure theres cheaper options out there but there just not comparable and dont really penetrate the material enough for a stong bond. Back in the day 2006ish J johnptc built an 800 gal using 3/4" polypropolene heat welded at the seams with a metal cage for support... Based on his design i built myself a 650 gal lined with 1/2" PolyP and metal frame... i paid $400 for a stinel brand heat welder but didnt trust the seams so i ended up throwing a liner in over top. cheapest waterproofing option imo is pondliner... ive put windows in pond liner tanks twice now with sucess... my 650gal has been running since 2010... 2nd tank i built 1400gal only lasted a year... the window did not fail.... my fish chewed through the 45mil epdm :/... thats the downside of liners. if u keep fish with teeth i dont recommend them... preventative measures can be taken for them to work tho. i agree with stuckon stuckon ... abs, pvc, or even acrylic sheet can be used to line a plywood structure and theres solvents that will adhere them properly/well. Ive fabricated with star board before, its very porous when sanded..... petroleum based plastics in general do not take solvents/adhesion tho due to the oil in them. weld-on #40 will adhere to acrylic/abs and pvc sheets... runs around $135 a gallon and u could prob do an 8x4x2 tanks seams with 1 gal.
