Finally started the pond build. Because of it's location in an unfinished basement with air temps in the mid 50's during the winter months I decided to build with the most insulation possible. Interior dimensions are roughly 8 x 4 x 2.5.

looks like an awesome project. you going to add any bracing and whats the stock?

There's tons of metal brackets being placed at the corners and such. Stock will be a RTC and TSN. The pond may not be big enough for life but should get me quite a few years before I need to go bigger. Hopefully by then I'll be in a new house with a larger basement.

Well done...

build a lid to cover atleast 3/4 of the pond during the winter to help with the heating. you lose ALOT of heat out the surface of the water.

even if all you do is put a sheet of plastic over the top it will help. plus it will cut down on evap.

With the layers as follows: Liner, foam, plywood, frame with insulation, plywood I think this will help keep the temps stable. For a cover I plan on using a solar pool cover attached to a pvc frame that will sit inside the pond just above the water level. This should help with evap, and hopefully keep the heating costs down.

I did a rough install of the liner this week, back to lowes today to get the supplies to build the filter. I have a Laguna Max Flow 2900gph on order that should arrive in the next few days.

ANYONE HAVE TIPS on how to get the liner to sit in the corners better?
