I'd go along with the nanoluteus as far as a Central American, they stay small and add lots of color.

You will need to stay up on water quality though, more sensitive than say, the multispinosa.

blue ram cichlids they don't really get too big and aren't really aggressive they are colorful and make good tank mates.
