Starter Ray?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
as long as it is rounded there is no problem. I have several tanks with sand on one side and gravel on the other and the rays seem to like either side equally. But, a new ray or a young ray may take comfort easier in sand because they can burr themselve's quicker.

Also when choosing sand make sure it fresh water safe, along with being safe for scaleless fish. Estes brand sand I know is deffinately safe for rays.

And! if you have any filter intakes going into your tank make sure you cover the intake with a sponge or some type of pre-filter to stop the sand from getting sucked up into the filter's motor.

And another note: If you have heaters inside your tank make sure you get heater guards for them, your rays WILL burn themselves on an unprotected heater.

where can i find the estes sand and what size do the bags come in

I get mine at Local Pet store, they come in 5lbs. & 20lbs bags but the store I go to never has the 20lbs bags.

Either do a web search or call your local fish stores and ask.

sorry for all the questions but i don't want to mess up with the ray this time. what is the best way to get the sand into the tank which is full of water? also i have and aquaclear 110 and a fluval 405 on a 75 gallon tank where the stingray will go with a arowana who is about 10in long what would be the best filter media to put in the filters for both fish.
