start with something big. 125 plus gallons. it much easier to care for and you can find used tanks, stands, ect... for fairly cheap.

In front of my tanks
you should get some damsels there very hardy and there mean as hell they will stand up to any thing that can't eat them they are perfect starter fish then get a minatus grouper to take care of them

Get Chromis they look nicer and Pseudochromis. 2 stripe chromis is nasty. Eels are a good starter to. Snowflakes are great but you need a lid and you need a feeding stick to feed them thawed silversides or live. Unless they have already been convinced to eat pellet. But yes, bigger is better. It's harder to screw up with a larger volume tank. You have alot more room to work with water parameters. What kind of setup are you going to do? Fish Only, Fish Only With Live Rock, or Reef? You did mean Saltwater didn't you?

Did you want salt or freshwater, the thread title says salt but the text says fresh.

tank as big as you can affort, nothing smaller than 50gal, bigger is more stable environment, cycle it with uncured live rock instead of fish. damsel are most hardy, bubble tip anemones once it is cycled are hardy but need excellent lighting. green chromis are good

Curing rock in the main tank is bad idea. Your tank will get filled with detritus. Cure it outside of the main tank in a garbage can or tote. Cycle with a piece of shrimp. Unless you like chromis just don't waste your money on cycling fish. You just need something to make ammonia in the tank. And don't add your own. Later

stay away from damsels dude. They're little bastards. They'll stand up to almost anything and stress out anything which isn't somewhat aggressive. Or, cycle a tank and put in a big enough predator to take care of them. :D
