I've wanted to start a native tank for quite a while.
I had intended to do a 75G with two-three grass pickerel, but other things came up and it never happened blah blah blah.

Now, I've got a 45G 3'x1'x2' (LxWxH) and was wondering what species I could keep. I know its not a a lot of room, but any suggestions would be helpful.
I thought about sunfish, but with an average length of 8'', it seems like it would become a bit cramped.

Thanks in advance for any help!
:D

I'd go with some of the smaller sunfish species, or go a different direction with Florida flagfish and/or other killies

catch a small yellow perch/ they are easy tank fish and the grow slow/sinnies/crappies also /ive had every native almost /pickeral do ok but i thinks being captive affects them more/ to end get some small yellow perch and youll love me for the info /

Yeah I would stick to sunfish species that wont outgrow the tank.

Keep away from any Largemouth Bass or Smallmouth Bass or anything that will surpass 12 inches. Unless of course you have plans in the near future to upgrade to bigger tanks.

I really like the look of the yellow perch.
What about a trio of yellow perch, and a madtom cat?

yellow perch and white perch are so easy going in the tank its crazy/all they do is eat and swim /far as diet tho i couldnt get them to eat nothing but worms and feeders/but over all the best native for a tank that i can find, cuz the sunnies will fight but the perch seem to be happy go lucky

My only problem is, I have no idea where I would get yellow perch.

I would still go with the perch or a single crappie
