Hey everyone,

I need some help. I've had about 5 tanks already, and now I'm working to convert a tank I've usekd for geckos in the past to either a freshwater African or South American tank. How should I clean out the tank and get rid of the uhh... residual reptilian germs ect?

spraying it out with tapwater would do fine. don't concern yourself with the 'residual reptile germs', they arent a problem and/or the tapwater's clorine will take care of them. just make sure the tank appears nice and clean when you put the fish in.

agreed, just use hot water, and like sponge or somthing. if you are really freaked out about it, you can use a mild bleach water solution, but you will wanna make sure you rinse really well, and for precaution fill up the tank and add a bunch of stress coat, then empty and you should be ok.

Thanks alot guys. I'll get on it. The original tank that I was gonna use turned out to be not made for an aquarium, or thats alteast what it said. I was lucky enough to remember that i have a 30 up in my garage. I'm not sure if it holds water too well though. Im leak testing it as I type. If it infact doesn't hold water, are there anymeathods of finding out where the hole is to seal it?

When resealing a tank I like to reseal the whole length of all the seams so I don't miss any leaks. It only takes a little longer to do the whole thing than it does to do just a segment.

Thanks alot for the suggestions guys. I'm thinking about making this one an African theme tank. A 30's big enough for a Senegal Birchir or a Rope Fish right? and if so what tank mates would be good for them? Thanks
