Starting a small FO tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if i were you id just go to the LFS and get a few small pieces of rock. This after all is better then nothing and not to costly on the wallet. agreed that anemones are not needed in the tank but the really do make great additions into your tanks. One thing that was not mentioned about them is they require relatively strong lighting. This means you would need to buy a new light setup for the tank, which can get up there in price depending on what you go for. another side note about rock, is that adding some live rock, your sand will become "live" quicker so you get a few benefits out of one lol.

hope all goes well in the tank and I'm looking forward to pics.

Yea I will try and see how much little rocks, I can get. I think I could get a fair amount since I found a fish store that sells them for 5.99lb. Not as good as online prices but definitely better than the other lfs.
Can you add live rock periodically? like if I add LR tomorrow, can I add a few more one week from tomorrow or a month? I think I read somewhere that it upsets the cycle in the aquarium. So I guess when my tank is cycled and stable then that would make my reef sand live right? In the long term, I am thinking of converting my other 3ft long FW tank into SW. Having an established small aquaria should help in starting that bigger one in the future.
