So basically, refuge or no refuge? I always say refuge. I think it is very beneficial and every tank should have one as big as possible.
While not the ideal way, the most popular is to have the skimmer in the first chamber where the water comes from the tank, then baffles, then refuge, then baffles, then return pump.
so i ended up finding a aqueon 3 sump AND SKIMMER for 275. picked it up today and added the mud to let sit till tomorrow. so filtration should be good once i fire this bad boy up
If you do make a trip their, mostly corals are the big hit at that store....very descent prices. Make sure you call ahead to make sure they have a variety of corals to choose from, as the stock goes quick....better yet if you like a coral that you want your hands on tell them to order it so you go to the store already having one coral to purchase...completely up to you.
so i added the aqueon 3 refugium sump and got rid of fx5, 800gal overflow with 750 gph pump, and a 125 coral skimmer also added 1350 gph power head. seems to be moving pretty nicely, just waiting for it to clear from dust in refugium from LR rubble, also have mud and macro alge in the sump. there is cpr bakpak witch i have had on there since day one, so hoping that has enuf bb to keep tank stable while refug seeds after taking of fx5.
got a anenome tday(had to great deal) and he planted himself in between 2 LR. was swelling and retracting pretty bad once i first got him. fed him a little piece of silverside and has planted himself nicely and is looking good!! ill get better pics once it clears.

Sounds like things are going well. Like you said, hopefully taking off the FX5 doesn't cause any problems or restart the cycle. I honestly would have left the FX5 on for a while well the sump got establish, but no choice now! Also, watch the nem closely. What type is it? Bubble tip? Nem's generally shouldn't be added to new tanks. They do much better in established tanks so pay close attention to how the nem is responding.
