Starting Fish Store/Hatchery

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok folks,
Things are progressing quickly, I am happy to report I will be posting my stores lay out by middle of next week. So you will have an idea of things. I have a very good company that I hired to equip design install my tank systems. so far its looking like I will have close to 100 k in total gallons in just f/w alone and I am looking into about 20 k in salt systems plus I will have a full vet/lab area as well.

I also have been approched by the property managment about adding a addional 1500 sq ft to my current plan of 3000 sq ft. I will wait to see how sales go after first year and see where we sit but If I do get the space. I would expect a huge growth in monsters in both salt and fresh water :naughty:

Now for the scary news my building will not be ready until January 2009 and I will not be up and running until march got to cycle systems get stock in so I I am giving wiggle room to work and bugs out of my system/new building before I invest in major live stock.

Sounds great, its going to take a LONG time to sell $750K in fish!

The more black ray breeders the better...lower black ray prices!

he wouldnt have 750K in fish that would include the space, tank setups, fish and other stuff... it would be for the entire thing not just fish.

I may not have an MBA or any other fancy initials after my name but last time I checked the "other stuff" wasnt free and in order to recoup his loss he needs to sell his product which is fish. In fact given even just a modest mark up of 200% of his cost, he will have to gross $1.5million in fish sales to cover his investment. Of course this is assuming that the $750K he is throwing down is both his fixed and variable costs over an "x" amount of time (highly unlikely but just as an example).

750 k is for total set up and my loss on that is not bad at all considering its all grant money for me to start up a company. How did I get all this free money you ask ???? Well first you must join the US armed forces and serve in about 9 war zones get hurt than have congress pass a bill so vets get moved to top of list for goverment grants .....it just that simple . The only trick is to live long enough to find out about the program and than hire good good grant writing law firm ....than if your luck you too can oper your own fish store :WHOA:.

Attached is a layout proposal for three multi-rack glass tank systems in the space I designated on the floor plan. There are three replicate systems, each system consisting of ten racks set in back-to-back configurations.

Each rack has three shelves and can hold either six 10-gallon glass tanks, or two 29-gallon glass tanks, or one 55-gallon glass tank per shelf.

This configuration can give me a total of either:

540 of 10-gallon glass tanks or...
180 of 29-gallon glass tanks or...
90 of 55-gallon glass tanks or...

some combination of all three.

The filtration shown is basic recirculating filtration with the following stages:

- 1st-stage mechanical filtration (120-micron filter pad tray at lower sump of each rack)
- 2nd-stage mechanical filtration (50-micron filter bag at first set of bag filter housings)
- chemical (carbon) filtration - activated carbon in 100-micron bag at second set of bag filter housings)
- UV sterilization - 120,000+ microWatt seconds/square cm of UV exposure (90,000 at 9-month lamp change)
- Bio-filtration - combination of submerged media (Kaldness or Siporax) located within lower sump of each rack.

Some water storage reservoirs are shown on the plan as well but may have something in mind for a larger water holding reservoir that will hold supply water for all of your systems including the ray tanks.
