Starting my 30 is my equipment good enough??

I wouldnt really ever use a HOB filter on a sw tank.

At the very most I would use it to throw some chemical media in there, nothing more. Invest in a skimmer, and maybe a phosban reactor. Thing is cheap and you can run all sorts of media in there, in adddition to using it as an HOB model.

HOB filters like the aquaclear CAN be made into refugiums, but I dont think that would work as well as the methods of filtration that I have mentioned.

Hey guys, so I just found someone selling this light fixture here which is PERFECT for only $100, only one problem... my tank is a 29 gallon which is 30" long and the light is 48" would it look goofy as hell hanging over it or is it worth it??

I'm not too keen on using a light that doesn't fit my tank. That is mostly personal preference though. It's also a 4x 54watt fixture which.... may be a bit over the top. Don't quote me but I think you can have too much light.

On the plus side the way those lights are designed, the legs slide in or out and you turn a screw to tighten them. So whether it will work or not specs wise, don't ask me, but if you do go with that one you will certainly be able to mount it with the legs. I'm sure it will look goofy with light on the outside of the tank sure. If I had to do this, I'd consider trying to use foil to stop the light once it goes passed the tank, however it will still look a bit silly hanging over IMO. That's really your personal preference.
