Agree with Wharf if you want a flowerhorn try to get a 75 or larger. 75s can come pretty cheap if you check local classifieds or sales at pet stores.

If you have Petco near by when the dollar per gallon sale comes around you get 75 for like $100 (tax included). They tend to just halve the priced of tanks over 40 gallons if memory serves me right.

I can confirm this, my 40 breeder was around $80 before tax.

Unfortunately a FlowerHorn requires a larger aquarium. Don't have any experience with Spiny Eels but others will chime in with their thoughts. Also the Forum is not all about large aquarium's we educate about all sizes. Others will chime in with their choice of species for a 40 gallon breeder. Is this your first aquarium? Happy Birthday!

Not my first, I have two currently, a 5 gallon and a 15 gallon. It’s not my birthday yet i’m just getting prepared early ahahah.
