A 5.5 gallon betta tank. I don't think there will be any benefit to adding gravel or filter media from such a small tank.

Then just use its media to seed your new media. A squeeze from a sponge filter is a heck of a kick start.

You think the bacteria built up on a 5 gallon betta tank will have much impact on a 150 gallon? Also, if I do that...do I need to worry about the betta tank going into a mini cycle if I put the sponge back in or put a new one in his filter?
