so as i was dreading one of my pups is starting to show some obvious curling symptons, and i have seriously no idea why, the water params have allways been 0 amonnia 0 nitrites since been in this tank and the highest nitrates has been 30ppm with minimum 2x20-25% WC a week, they are feeding on live compost/earthworms which i rinse in water first and also nibble on broken chunks of massivore, temp was at 27Celcius but now have raised to 29-30celcius and done a 40% WC yesterday aswell as try to over feed on worms i have no idea how its being caused and trying so hard not to loose it and was wondering does this look healthy at the moment or is the fat reserve to big?? like constipated or something??

QUICK EDIT: also been leaving light off except sometimes the blue nightlight to get fotos/check up on him and even put a black shee on the front of the tank to help darken and avoid any other stress

is this a new born pup? maybe your having a bit of ammonia/nitrite?? you mention you are over feeding on worms that is not a good thing. it looks fat, so dont over feed it because chances are it is a water quality issue anyway or possibly it is stressed?

are any other rays having issues in the tank? Are all the rays eating? Is this ray eating at all

I really don't see a problem here.
Ray looks healthy in both pics, its normal for pups to raise the disc slightly in this way, sometimes it happens when the disc catches the water flow.
Rays that show even the slightest sign of death curl fail to eat, death usually follows with in a hour or two of this symptom, I think this is nothing more than you being both inexperienced(don't take that the wrong way) and over worrying.
Be careful not to over feed pups, they can sometimes suffer a prolapsed anus due to weak muscle retention, feed till you can see a nice swelling of the abdomen but nothing excessive, once the abdomen has returned to its normal size its safe to feed again, this way you won't over do it.
Chill out, all looks well to me from what I can see.

All the best with them.

Many thanx to all ur replies i must state that this picture was not intended to show the "curl" but to show the ray in general to just see if he is healthy enough and has good fat reserves, also i am new to rays but very experienced with alot of other fish. This all started back in this post http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?532440-Your-Opinions with details on how young they are and how i received them etc and many thanx for all replies!

Ok in response to this, details of pups are in the other link i posted above ur quote, my water quality is fine have been testing daily since i thought i was having problems, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate sit 20-30ppm depending on WC there is nothing in this tank except for the pair of rays (brother and sister) and only the male has shown bad signs (looks like a upside down mushroom at times). As for feeding they still eat everything that goes in the tank sometimes just takes a little longer even tho they are fat, they have gained alot of fat since i have owned for short period of time as they were skinny as and red bellies wen i received these.

in reply to this, in honesty i am inexperienced with rays as these are my first to own(hence posting for u guys to help), but in aquariums in general i have plenty of experience and knowledge to make sure water params are right and feeding is right etc. Also i am probly over worrying and stressing over these since the day i got them due to the circumstances of how they arrived from interstate and the price we pay here in AUS. But in all i will be definitely taking in your advice about the abdomen wen feeding and prolapsed anus.

i don´t see the curl, pup looks great to me

As stated at start of my reply, this isnt a photo of the "upside down mushroom" appearance i saw this is just a general pic so i could get advice on if healthy looking or not

When Rays raise up in the back they are acting defensive or like Aquaman said catching some current. I notice this more with Motoros than black rays.

Agree with Aquaman. I've had pups do the same thing and they were just fine.

In the meantime thank you all for your replies will take it all on board and since posting this i didnt get a "upside down mushroom" photo as i saw it wen the lights were off and he hasnt repeated it since, if it does happen again this is wen i am in panic mode and will try get another photo of that specific thing up

Well its only gotten worse i have tried everything and fear the worst, not eating either for last couple days tried earthworms, blackworms, prawn, pellets nothing works and curl is really bad now but no red belly and water is fine?????? im uploading a video now i dont know wot else to do?? should i treat the tank with pimafix?? will it hurt the other pup??

She looks super constipated to me.. she doesn't look disorientated ect... I would NOT use pimafix.. but I would consider a de-wormer(prazi-pro is what I use) or maybe epsomsalts ( something that could help with constipation) I'm fairly new to rays myself so you may want to wait for some more advise. But the videos and pics I"ve seen of death curling the rays look super disorientated usually and swim erratically... imo it's not the dreaded "death curl" but deffinately somethign that needs to be addressed asap.
