Don't know why anyone would choose one of these over a more personable and less aggressive catfish like a Redtail. They're roughly the same size, and you certainly don't need to keep a RTC in a species tank like a Asian Redtail.
I don't know if it's common knowledge, but the Asian Redtail is in the same family of Catfish as Hemibagrus wyckii, the Crystal Eyed/Devil Cat. Said Catfish is considered by many to be one of if not the most aggressive Catfish on the planet.
From Planetcatfish...
"A lone predator, will attempt to systematically dismantle any living thing too large to be consumed outright. Some report successful combination with much larger fish, but this would require a public aquaria sized aquarium or pond, very risky in anything smaller."
Really, the Asian Redtail isn't much better. Whether its with small tankmates, or ones that are the same size as the Redtail, you're going to end up with a lot of dead fish.
Also, they're not going to be swallowed whole like a Redtail Catfish would at least have the courtesy to do. They'll more then likely be tore apart if the Asian Redtail can't consume them whole. That type of aggression just isn't worth it in any sort of community tank.
