How would never giving them a natural light cycle (i.e. 24/7) lighting calm them down?

What's your temp at? I have noticed that if you raise the temp to 88 to 90 they are so hungry the last thing they even think about is running away and hiding all they want to do is eat, also I try to feed a lot if small meals it makes them beg. Once they get large it doesn't matter

I have heard the same thing from ollllld school guys doing it with newly imported wholesale stuff. I have no idea why it would work or if there are any long term negative effects but who knows? Might be something there.

The thought process behind the lights is that they will normally freak iut when you turn them on. By keeping them on, they will feel more comfortable in the lights and then more comfortable and less skittish overall.

I'd try adding some barbs or other schooling fish before I'd keep the lights on 24/7.
Sometimes when fish see others out and about they settle down...
