starting to plan my 2500 gal.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There's going to be some modifications on that plan. I just ordered 144 pot scrubbers. Anyone have any idea how much volume that might take up? Probably no where near what I need, but it will have to do for now!

I'm scrapping this plan for something different! I am currently running the 1100 gal pond as a temporary thing since it keeps springing leaks every time I look at it. New plan is to go forward with the tank idea. I am just going to keep it small enough that I could actually have it shipped if I were to move. The new dimensions I am working on will be 15Lx8Wx5H. I have an old glass countertop that I will be using as a viewing window. This thing will probably be around 4000 gal. I know it's a long time comming, but I just know I definitely need it lol. I have too many fish that get huge to just keep them in a rag tag pool from target. I like the idea of keeping them in a round container as it seems more natural, but I have limited space and to get the most bang for my space and dollar I am going with an extremely sturdy wooden tank design. My glass pane is 6'x4'x.5", I know the thickness of the glass is an issue, but I don't plan on exposing more than a 5'x3' section of it so should be fine. I'll start another thread for just this tank once I start framing it. I have the glass, tons of bolts and screws. Going to find some good sources for fiberglass, and some kind of sealant. The plan has evolved to be very complicated indeed. Probably using more wood in this than there is in my entire 30' x 30' garage lol.

Oh and a different filter design, new filter design will have one of the 55 gal barrels as a settling chamber, and it will be part of a 8'x3'x3' wet dry sump filter that will be directly connected to the main tank. Plan on using around 200-250 gals worth of potscrubbies for the bioload this beast will have to handle. This thing is going to have really thick walls, and I plan on fully insulating the entire thing to save on energy costs. This tank will be mostly sealed except for the air inlets and a few small holes for wires, tubing, ect. I am hoping that this will cut down on evaporation enough to do without a dehumidifyer. I plan on running a water line from the filter to a septic drain for water changes during the winter and pump it through a sprinkler in the yard during the summer. Was also thinking of an auto water changing drip(in this case a small stream) system.

just use fiberglass and epoxy resin you can get pigment to add to the epoxy to make it any colour you want this method is really strong and last for ever if you use polyestre resin you need to seal it with epoxy paint

That's a cool idea john, but space is an issue with a round tank. I can't really go more than 10' dia, and I already have a 10' dia pool running as a pond right now. Plus the price lol. I can't afford it all at once. That's why I like the idea of doing this out of wood. I can buy the materials over time and eventually get this up and running. I'm in the military not rich by any means lol. Although I am trying to get some ideas patented for some possible future profit lol.
