Starting with dart frogs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've been contemplating having a vivarium for poison dart frogs for a month and I still haven't made my mid yet. I still have some questions about it.

What was the initial investment when everything was bought brand new? Lets say 4 frogs total.

How hard was maintenance?

Filter requirements?

Thanks!

Ok i will stop posting pictures. That is until I get some new ones.

The smallish frog towards the end is a Hyla (Dendropsophus) leucophylata AKA Clown tree frog.

My next adventure is going to be Albino red eye tree frogs. I can not wait.
I need more frogs like i need a hole in the head.

It depends on what size tank you want and what kind of frogs you want.
A typical 20 gal ( which you would need atleast a 20 gal for 4 frogs)
The frogs will range you anywhere from $30 a frog to $500 a frog.
Another thing you need to consider is how elaborate you want your tank to be. A water feature?
I would say tank alone ( done right) about 200 counting buuying the tank.

Thanks keath. I already have the tank by the way.

Well that helps.
As far as maintenance goes. I wipe down the front glass maybe once a week other than that I have tanks that have been set up for over 3 years that are still going strong.

do you have any set up pics? Always just as interested in the set ups as I am with the frogs lol!

heres my viv.its a 20g with one d. azueres dart. ive have been planning on getting a breeding colonie going for a while now.

those pics are a few monthes old now, and its a junle now, but it might give you some insperation

I will work on getting some setup pics. I am getting ready to work on a 35 gal hex and a 75 gal vertical so I plan on doing a thread of step by step pics.

Azureus can not live in a colony the females fight. You can have more than one male but normally not more than I female
